Microsoft Loop is a new collaboration app that brings the concept of "living content" into the Microsoft 365 world. Instead of sending static documents back and forth, teams work with dynamic components that remain synchronized everywhere – whether in Teams, Outlook, Word, or the Loop app itself.
What is Loop?
Loop Components
Loop components are small, interactive content blocks – tables, task lists, polls, or notes – that can be embedded in Teams chats, Outlook emails, and other M365 apps. Any changes are immediately synchronized everywhere. For example, if you share a task list in a Teams chat, all participants see updates in real-time, regardless of whether they access it through Teams, Outlook, or the Loop app.
Loop Pages
Loop Pages are flexible workspaces where you can combine various components – similar to Notion. You can freely arrange text, tables, task lists, and embedded content. Pages are great for meeting notes, project plans, or knowledge collections that are continuously updated.
Loop Workspaces
Workspaces organize your Loop Pages thematically. Each workspace can be assigned to a project, a team, or a topic. Access rights are controlled at the workspace level, simplifying management for IT administrators.
Advantages
Real-time Collaboration
Multiple people can work on the same component simultaneously – without version conflicts or merging changes. Cursors and changes from other users are immediately visible. This significantly speeds up collaboration in distributed Swiss teams.
App-independent
The biggest advantage of Loop is its app independence. A Loop component in a Teams message is identical to the same component in an Outlook email. There is only one "source of truth." This resolves the classic problem of information silos in companies.
Flexibility
Compared to OneNote, Loop offers a more modern, structured interface. Compared to SharePoint, Loop is more agile and less formal. Loop does not replace OneNote or SharePoint but complements both: Loop for quick, dynamic collaboration, SharePoint for structured document storage, OneNote for personal notes.
