FAQ

What is Microsoft Power Apps?

Microsoft Power Apps is a low-code platform for building custom business applications. Canvas apps provide full UI control; model-driven apps build automatically from a Dataverse data model. Both types integrate with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Dataverse and external APIs.

What can be built with Power Apps?

CNEXT builds with Power Apps: leave request apps, expense report apps, asset management tools, inspection checklists, incident reporting apps, project tracking apps, HR onboarding apps, customer visit reports and custom CRM views. Anything that currently runs in Excel, paper forms or an ageing bespoke system is a strong Power Apps candidate.

Does Power Apps work on mobile devices?

Yes. Power Apps canvas apps run natively on iOS and Android via the Power Apps mobile app (free download). CNEXT designs apps mobile-first, with offline capability for field teams that work without reliable connectivity. Tested across Swiss mobile networks and common enterprise device policies (Intune MDM).

How is Power Apps licensed in Microsoft 365?

Basic Power Apps (SharePoint, Teams connectors) are included in Microsoft 365 Business/Enterprise plans. Premium connectors (SQL Server, SAP, Dataverse, REST APIs) require Power Apps Premium (CHF 20/user/month) or Power Apps per-app (CHF 5/user/app/month). CNEXT performs a licence optimisation analysis before every project.

What is Dataverse and when does a Power Apps project need it?

Microsoft Dataverse is a cloud-hosted relational database built into the Power Platform. It is recommended when: the app requires complex data relationships, needs business rules/calculated fields, will serve 1,000+ records, or must integrate with Dynamics 365. For simpler apps, SharePoint lists are often sufficient.

Can Power Apps connect to SAP or Swiss ERP systems like Abacus?

Yes. Power Apps connects to SAP via the SAP ERP connector or custom REST API connector. For Abacus, CNEXT uses the Abacus REST API or ODBC connection. We have built Power Apps connected to Abacus, Sage, Bexio, SAP and custom SQL databases for Swiss clients.

How long does a Power Apps project take?

A simple Power Apps form (1–2 screens, SharePoint backend): 1–2 weeks. A mid-complexity app (3–5 screens, Dataverse, Power Automate approvals): 4–8 weeks. A complex business application (replacing a legacy tool, custom API integrations): 8–20 weeks. CNEXT delivers in agile sprints with weekly demos.

How much does a Power Apps project cost in Switzerland?

Simple form/approval apps: CHF 5,000–12,000. Mid-size business apps: CHF 15,000–40,000. Complex apps with Dataverse and multiple integrations: CHF 40,000–120,000. CNEXT provides fixed-price project offers after a free 1-hour feasibility assessment.

Can Power Apps replace a custom-built application?

Often yes. CNEXT evaluates Power Apps vs. custom development based on: data complexity, number of users, required customisation and long-term maintenance cost. Power Apps is typically 30–60% cheaper to build and easier to maintain. Read our comparison at /en/power-apps-vs-custom-development.

Does CNEXT provide Power Apps training?

Yes. CNEXT offers Power Apps training for end users (how to use the app), citizen developers (how to build simple apps in Copilot Studio / Power Apps) and IT admins (governance, ALM, environment management). Training is available in German and English, on-site or remote.
